Mowing

The first principle is mowing height. A lawn cut to the correct height has more ability to produce food for itself, will stay greener in adverse conditions, will reduce weed germination and is more resistant to disease. Your lawn should be no shorter than 30mm after it has been cut. Mowing higher will result in taller grass which will shade the soil and help to reduce water loss from evaporation. When grass is cut too low, most of the food producing part of the plant is lost. This can result in a brownish lawn and will be more susceptible to disease. The key to mowing frequency is to never remove more than a third of the total grass blade height in a single mowing.

Watering

Since your grass blades are about 90% water, it is always important to maintain moisture levels for a healthy vibrant lawn. It is advisable to water in the morning or during the day but avoiding excessive heat to get the best results. The grass needs to dry sufficiently prior to nightfall to avoid the opportunity for fungal diseases and spores to gather. An average lawn will consume about 25mm of water per week and you should aim to replace it with a similar amount. During dryer periods it is essential to maintain irrigation. If for any reason you are unable to water your lawn, we can provide this service.

Weed & Moss Control

A weed is any plant that grows where it is not wanted! All lawns are susceptible to weed seeds from the wind, birds, pets and the soles of shoes. Does your lawn have a selection of weeds that does your lawn no justice?

We can control most weeds at certain times of the year as long as they are in growth.

We will recommend the most appropriate application along with suitable fertilisation to ensure that grass grows and weeds are forced out.

Moss can be a perennial problem in many lawns and changing turf conditions can improve some areas. However, treatment and removal by scarification is required in most instances. Continued aeration will improve drainage and is also recommended. If you're fed up with unsightly moss year after year, we will recommend the best program for your lawn!
